Cignal Outlasts Creamline In Epic Showdown

The last time these two teams met, it took everything—five exhausting sets, endless rallies, and nerves of steel—before a winner finally emerged.

So when Cignal and Creamline found themselves in another deciding set just days later, it didn’t feel like a rematch—it felt like fate demanding a new ending.

And this time, Cignal answered.

The Super Spikers refused to let history repeat itself, grinding out a thrilling 25-21, 24-26, 18-25, 25-22, 17-15 victory over the Cool Smashers to secure the second semifinal berth in the Premier Volleyball League. The electric crowd at Araneta Coliseum witnessed a battle that went the distance—again—but with a different hero at the end.

Cignal came out blazing in Set 5, with Erika Santos setting the tone early. As the pressure mounted and every point mattered more than the last, Vanie Gandler took control, delivering clutch plays with calm and confidence.

But Creamline never backs down.

The Cool Smashers fought their way back, erasing two match points behind Tots Carlos and capitalizing on a rare miscue from Gandler. Suddenly, it was déjà vu—a tense extension similar to their last five-set duel, where Creamline escaped with a 16-14 win.

At 15-all, the tension was unbearable.

Gandler and Alyssa Valdez went head-to-head in a fitting showdown—power versus power, heart versus heart. Then came the turning point.

A service error from Pangs Panaga gave Cignal an opening. On the next play, Creamline turned to its most trusted scorer. Valdez rose, attacked—and the ball sailed long.

Silence.

A last-ditch challenge followed, but the replay confirmed it: no touch.

No miracle this time.

Just the end.

Cignal had finally flipped the script.

In a match filled with relentless rallies, fearless digs, and pure determination, the Super Spikers proved they could go toe-to-toe with the best—and come out on top. They now move on to the Final Four, joining PLDT High Speed Hitters.

Santos led the charge with 26 points, while Gandler added 22. But it was setter Gel Cayuna who quietly orchestrated the win, dishing out 35 excellent sets and even scoring 11 points with gutsy, well-timed plays.

Still, Cayuna stayed grounded.

“Salamat sa teammates ko kasi kumapit talaga lahat. Grabe ang effort namin sa training at binigay nila lahat,” she said, crediting the team’s collective grit in the grueling two-hour, 30-minute battle—the longest match of the conference so far.

Creamline, despite the loss, showed why they remain one of the league’s toughest teams. Bernadette Pons returned strong with 20 points, while Valdez delivered 18. Panaga, Carlos, and Bea de Leon added solid numbers—but on this night, it just wasn’t enough.

Now battle-tested and more confident than ever, Cignal heads into the semifinals with momentum—and a newfound belief.

“Sa semis, kapag pressure game na, alam na namin kung paano i-overcome,” Cayuna added.

And maybe that’s what truly changed this time.

Because when the match reached the kind of ending Creamline usually owns, it was Cignal that stood taller, steadier, and stronger.

They didn’t just survive the moment.

They owned it.

As for Creamline, their journey isn’t over yet. The Cool Smashers will get one more shot at redemption in the Play-In second round against the winner of the Akari-Choco Mucho clash.

But for now, the night—and that hard-earned semifinal spot—belongs to Cignal.
