House trial spokesperson and Assistant Minority Leader Renee Co on Sunday dismissed claims linking recent committee reshuffles in the House of Representatives to the impeachment vote against Vice President Sara Duterte, saying the changes were simply internal adjustments within the chamber.

Co said some lawmakers experienced changes in committee memberships while others were assigned leadership roles, but stressed that these developments were not connected to the impeachment proceedings.

“Mayroon pong iilang nagkaroon ng pagbabago sa membership ng kanilang committees at may ilang nakita tayo na-assign in leadership,” Co said during an interview on Todo Balita sa Hapon hosted by Geli Mendez on DWIZ.

“Mas yun pa ang nangyari, hindi po ito connected sa doon pagboto o hindi sa particular na issue,” Co added.

The Kabataan Party-list lawmaker clarified that the reshuffle involved routine organizational matters inside the House and should not be interpreted as retaliation or reward tied to lawmakers’ positions on the impeachment complaint against Duterte.

Co also said the lawmakers directly affected by the committee changes would be the best people to explain the circumstances surrounding their reassignment.

“Siguro mas magandang tanungin mismo ang mga kongresistang involved,” Mendez said.

The issue emerged amid heightened political tensions surrounding the impeachment complaint against Duterte, which has continued to draw strong reactions from both allies and critics of the Vice President.
