If there were any doubts after their opening-game stumble, Creamline erased them in front of 12,571 fans at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Tuesday night.

The Cool Smashers reasserted their mastery over sister team Choco Mucho, carving out a 27-25, 17-25, 25-21, 25-15 victory in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference. It wasn’t just a win — it was a reminder of who sets the standard in the league.

The crowd got the full rivalry experience: booming spikes, sharp crosscourt hits, fearless floor defense, towering blocks and tense momentum swings. Choco Mucho punched back after dropping a tight first set, dominating the second to even things up. But when the match tightened, Creamline’s championship poise took over.

After securing the pivotal third set, the Cool Smashers pulled away in the fourth — a stretch that turned decisive when Flying Titans star Eya Laure collided with Tia Andaya while chasing a ball. Laure, who already had 19 points and was threatening to break the 20-point mark, was carried off by libero Tonnie Rose Ponce and taken to the dugout for further assessment.

Without Laure, Sisi Rondina (15 points) tried to spark a comeback, but Creamline’s defense slammed the door shut. Tots Carlos sealed the win with a hammer that ricocheted off Rondina’s arms, capping the match in one hour and 57 minutes.

The victory leveled Creamline’s record at 1-1 after a disappointing loss to PLDT, while handing Choco Mucho its second straight defeat.

“Coming into this game, everyone’s mindset was to enjoy themselves, follow the coach’s (Sherwin Meneses) system, and apply what we practiced,” said Bernadette Pons, who delivered a triple-double performance of 19 points, 18 excellent receptions and 13 digs.

She added, “Everyone gave their all and showed incredible hustle and effort.”

Pangs Panaga bounced back with 12 points after being limited to two in the opener, while Jema Galanza and Carlos chipped in 11 each. Jia De Guzman orchestrated the offense with 20 excellent sets and added eight points, including three kill blocks.

Time and again, Creamline has held the upper hand in this rivalry — including two championship series victories over Choco Mucho. And once more, when it mattered most, their depth, discipline and experience proved decisive.

For the 10-time champions, the message was clear: one early loss doesn’t shake a dynasty.
