Creamline Finds The Answer To Bella Belen's Scoring Storm
Bella Belen brought the thunder — but Creamline brought the timing.
From the opening serve, it was clear the Solar Spikers’ rookie star was ready for another monster night. Every swing had power, every rally seemed to find her hands. Yet while Belen racked up the numbers, the Cool Smashers quietly focused on something more important — shutting her down when it truly counted.
Belen exploded for 26 points, extending her 20-point streak to five straight games behind 24 attacks, one ace, one block, and nine digs. Still, Creamline’s disciplined defense and calm execution carried them to a 25-18, 26-24, 25-20 victory on Saturday in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference, forcing a three-way tie for second place.
“Actually, target talaga namin yung ganong situation na medyo ma-control namin si Bella. Happy ako kasi yung mga last na rotation ni Bella, medyo madadalang na yung puntos niya,” said Creamline coach Pat Meneses after the match.
The second set told the story best. Capital1 surged ahead, 23-17, threatening to grab momentum. But just when the Solar Spikers looked ready to pounce, Creamline tightened its defense. Belen was limited to just one point in the closing stretch, while Jema Galanza and Bernadeth Pons delivered the crucial hits that completed the comeback and gave the Cool Smashers a commanding 2-0 lead.
“Kahit na sunod-sunod yung puntos niya, importante kasi yung crucial points, mai-stop namin si Bella,” Meneses added. “Knowing Bella, di siya bibitaw. Maganda lang siguro yung composure ng team pagdating sa kanya.”
For Jia De Guzman and Galanza, who know Belen’s competitive fire all too well, the challenge was expected.
“She’s very competitive,” De Guzman said. “We knew she would keep fighting until the end.”
Galanza agreed, noting how Belen’s relentless energy fuels her teammates.
Bella Belen may have delivered another scoring showcase. But Creamline proved that sometimes, it’s not about stopping the star completely — it’s about stopping her at just the right time.
