Creamline Overcomes Absences To Beat Nxled In Season Opener

Creamline showed why it's still one of the Premier Volleyball League's deepest teams, opening its 2026 PVL On Tour Showdown campaign with a four-set victory over Nxled, 25-18, 25-23, 16-25, 25-19, on Wednesday at Capital Arena in Ilagan, Isabela.
The Cool Smashers came away with the win despite playing without several of their biggest stars, including Tots Carlos, Alyssa Valdez, Bea De Leon, Jeanette Panaga, and national team setter Jia De Guzman, who remains with Alas Pilipinas.
Stepping up for Creamline was Michele Gumabao, who came off the bench to deliver a match-high 18 points, built on 16 attacks, one block, and one ace. Lorie Bernardo added 13 points, while newcomer Ishie Lalongisip impressed in her debut for the Cool Smashers with nine points. Jema Galanza and Rose Vargas chipped in eight markers each.
Kyle Negrito orchestrated the offense with 16 excellent sets, while libero Denden Revilla anchored the defense with 16 excellent receptions. Ella De Jesus also contributed with nine excellent digs.
Head coach Sherwin Meneses praised the team's performance, especially the players who stepped into bigger roles.
"Siyempre, masaya ako kasi nag-perform nang maganda 'yung team namin. Kahit 'yung mga seniors namin 'di nakalaro, 'yun naman 'yung maka-experience sila ng ganitong laro. Magandang laro. So masaya."
Creamline looked poised for a sweep after taking the first two sets, but Nxled fought back to claim the third. The Cool Smashers quickly regained control in the fourth, using a key scoring run behind Gumabao and Vargas to pull away before Bernardo sealed the victory with an off-the-block attack.
Nxled, which also played without star hitter Brooke Van Sickle, was led by MJ Phillips. EJ Cariño recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 excellent receptions, while Myla Pablo and Jonah Sabete-Escamillan also scored 11 points each. Veteran setter Gel Cayuna made her debut for the Chameleons, finishing with 22 excellent sets and three points.
Creamline returns to action on August 8 against the revamped Capital1 squad in Santiago, Isabela, while Nxled hopes to bounce back on July 25 against the Solar Spikers in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
