Fewer crimes and more cases solved. That is the latest report from the Philippine National Police under the leadership of Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., who announced a continued drop in focus crimes from December 2025 to January 2026.

According to the PNP, focus crimes declined by 3.94 percent nationwide, falling from 2,687 cases in December to 2,581 in January — 106 fewer incidents in just one month. The improvement, officials said, reflects intensified police operations and stronger coordination with communities in line with the public safety vision of Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr..

Key Crimes Show Noticeable Decline

Several major crime categories posted significant reductions.

Murder cases dropped from 319 to 284. Physical injury cases saw a sharp decrease from 427 to 299. Rape cases went down from 516 to 400, while motorcycle carnapping cases declined from 162 to 149.

Most regions contributed to the downward trend, with Police Regional Office 1 recording the biggest improvement at 31.03 percent reduction in focus crimes.

NCRPO Leads in Performance

Fourteen regions reported lower crime volumes in January, pushing the national Crime Clearance Efficiency to 93.22 percent and the Solution Efficiency to 70.24 percent.

The National Capital Region Police Office ranked highest in both crime reduction and overall case-solving performance, according to the report.

PNP Chief Nartatez said the numbers show that crime is decreasing while more cases are being resolved, proof that intensified operations and stronger community coordination are producing results. He emphasized that police presence and investigative efforts will continue to be strengthened to ensure justice and peace of mind for every Filipino.

Strong Case Resolution Rates

The PNP also highlighted improvements in solving serious offenses.

Murder cases reached an 80.99 percent clearance rate and a 46.83 percent solution rate. Physical injury cases recorded a 95.99 percent clearance rate and a 79.26 percent solution rate. Rape investigations posted a 94 percent clearance rate, with 24 cases still pending.

Theft cases showed particularly strong results, achieving a 97.13 percent clearance rate and an 86.12 percent solution rate.

Authorities also reported focused action on kidnapping and cybercrime. Seven kidnapping cases were solved, reflecting an 85.71 percent efficiency rate. Cybercrime investigations posted a 66.55 percent clearance rate and a 55.75 percent solution rate as police continue strengthening digital security capabilities.

Nartatez underscored that every solved case represents a family finding closure and a community made safer, stressing that the campaign against crime will continue nationwide.

With crime statistics trending downward and case resolutions improving, the PNP says it remains committed to delivering faster, more reliable and felt public service as it pushes forward with reforms aimed at building safer communities across the country.
