Contractor Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya has been granted temporary leave from Senate detention to undergo a medical procedure, according to Senate Secretary Mark Llandro Mendoza.

Mendoza said Discaya is scheduled to undergo surgery on his right shoulder, tentatively set for Thursday. Following the operation, he is expected to remain under hospital care for several days while still under the supervision of Senate security personnel before being returned to custody.

Discaya has been in Senate detention since he was cited in contempt during an ongoing inquiry related to alleged irregularities in government flood control projects. The Senate panel ordered his detention after raising concerns over his testimony during the hearings.

Authorities have not released further medical details, but officials said the decision to allow hospital confinement was made on humanitarian grounds, with security arrangements in place to ensure continuous monitoring.

Once cleared by doctors, Discaya is expected to be transferred back to Senate custody to continue facing the contempt order issued against him.

The case is part of a broader legislative investigation into alleged anomalies in flood control projects, which has drawn public attention due to concerns over government infrastructure spending and project implementation.

For now, Senate officials say security protocols are in place to ensure Discaya remains under proper supervision throughout his hospital stay.
