Speeding up classroom construction without sacrificing quality is now firmly on the government’s agenda.
Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon and Education Secretary Sonny Angara recently conducted a joint inspection of a precast manufacturing facility in Mariveles, exploring technology that could significantly accelerate the building of classrooms by 2026.
During their visit, the two Cabinet secretaries toured the facility to examine modern construction methods, particularly precast and modular technologies designed for faster assembly. These innovations allow key structural components to be manufactured off-site and installed quickly, cutting down construction time while maintaining quality standards.
Among the highlights were modular structures that can serve as ready-to-install classrooms. These units are seen as a practical and immediate solution to help address the persistent shortage of learning spaces in public schools nationwide.
With many students still coping with overcrowded classrooms, both DPWH and DepEd are looking at smarter and more efficient building strategies to close the gap. If adopted on a wider scale, modular construction could mean fewer delays, quicker project completion, and faster delivery of safe and functional classrooms for Filipino learners.
For Dizon and Angara, the direction is clear—innovation and collaboration may be the key to building classrooms at the pace the country urgently needs.
