Public Works and Highways Sec. Vince Dizon reports that he construction of farm-to-market roads in Brgy. New Casay, Braulio E. Dujali, Davao del Norte is being fast-tracked to help nearly 200 small farmers transport their produce without losing profit due to rising fuel costs.
According to Dizon, the project is part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure farmers can bring their goods to market efficiently.
“Even just 800 meters [of farm-to-market road] already cuts transportation costs in half. Once completed, our farmers all the way to Tagum will benefit. The President said every missing section needs to be sped up because the impact will be huge,” Dizon said during an inspection of the project, accompanied by Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr..
The initiative comes as fuel price hikes continue to squeeze the agricultural sector, making timely delivery to markets increasingly expensive. By improving road access, the government aims to ease the burden on farmers while boosting the local economy.
Dizon emphasized that the project isn’t just about roads—it’s about protecting farmers’ livelihoods and ensuring food reaches the market efficiently. “The faster we finish this, the bigger the help for our farmers,” he added.
