Dizon Moves To Replace Unsafe School Buildings In Kalinga

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the immediate replacement of condemned school buildings still being used by students at Liwan West Elementary School in Rizal, Kalinga, following the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The move came after officials discovered that decades-old classrooms, built in the 1980s and already declared unsafe, remain in use despite their deteriorating condition. The government aims to provide students with safer, more comfortable, and more conducive learning spaces.
During his inspection of the school, Dizon personally saw the poor state of the facilities, including cracked classroom floors, damaged ceilings, and makeshift comfort rooms that both students and teachers continue to endure.
According to Dizon, the President had instructed government officials to visit schools, assess their actual condition, and immediately find solutions to long-standing infrastructure problems.
"That was the President's clear instruction—to go around, see the situation on the ground, and fix it. We have to make sure our students have proper classrooms where they can learn. Our children deserve dignity," Dizon said after inspecting the school.
The planned replacement of the condemned buildings forms part of the administration's efforts to improve public school infrastructure and ensure that students can study in safe and decent learning environments.
