Dizon Pushes Fast Build Of Permanent Bridge In Pangasinan To End Risky Bamboo Crossing

Residents in a small village in Agno, Pangasinan may soon say goodbye to their dangerous daily crossings, as the government moves to fast-track the construction of a permanent bridge in the area.

Acting on the directive of Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Infrastructure Secretary Vince Dizon took the lead in inspecting the situation on the ground and pushing for immediate action.

For now, residents of Barangay San Juan are forced to rely on a makeshift bamboo bridge—patched together and far from safe—just to get to the neighboring town. The temporary crossing replaced a hanging bridge that was destroyed by a series of strong typhoons in 2025.

After speaking directly with locals during his inspection on March 23, Dizon stressed the urgency of building a safer, long-term solution.

“We will build a permanent bridge—not a hanging one, but a supported structure. It can be widened so even four-wheel vehicles can pass one at a time. A lot of goods need to be transported from Burgos to Agno, and the impact on people’s daily lives is huge,” Dizon said.

The planned bridge is expected to significantly improve mobility in the area, making it easier not just for residents to travel safely, but also for the transport of goods and services between towns.

For families who risk crossing a fragile bamboo pathway every day, the project can’t come soon enough—and with Dizon now taking charge on the ground, hopes are high that relief is finally on the way.
