The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is aiming to speed up construction of the Pala-o Bridge in Iligan City after months of delays caused by utility obstructions.
DPWH Secretary Vivencio Dizon personally inspected the site, where the project is currently 30% complete. Construction began in April 2025 after the old one-lane Bailey bridge was removed to give way to a new concrete structure.
The ₱45.8-million project, handled by Mamsar Construction, is targeted for completion by August this year.
According to DPWH officials, work was stalled for several months because of electric and utility posts—along with tangled wiring—that stood in the way of the construction zone. The project also includes a 40-meter slope protection structure on the left side of the upstream section.
Dizon emphasized that the push to speed up the bridge construction is in line with the President’s directive for DPWH to finish pending and stalled projects before starting new ones.
Because of this, the secretary said he plans to accelerate the work so the bridge can be completed ahead of the next typhoon season. As the agency works to clear the remaining obstructions, DPWH hopes the project will finally move at full speed.
