Senator JV Ejercito has expressed concern over the current state of the San Juan Medical Center (SJMC), saying the hospital—once a priority project of the local government—now appears to be facing declining conditions and service issues.

In a social media post, Ejercito recalled that during his term and under former Mayor Guia Gomez, the hospital was given priority funding and development, including expansion and the acquisition of major medical equipment such as MRI and CT scan machines.

He said SJMC had undergone major improvements in 2019, shortly before the end of Gomez’s term, with the completion of its expansion and installation of new diagnostic equipment intended to strengthen healthcare services for residents.

Ejercito noted that despite these upgrades, the facilities were not immediately maximized during the pandemic period and were instead used in political discussions, according to his account.

He added that residents have recently raised various complaints and concerns about the hospital, prompting questions about its current condition and whether it has been properly maintained or prioritized.

The senator stressed that healthcare should remain a key priority for local leaders, particularly for institutions like SJMC that serve as the primary medical facility for San Juan residents.

He also contrasted past and present development priorities, saying essential public health services should take precedence over aesthetic or non-essential infrastructure projects, which he believes should not come before urgent healthcare needs.
