Empty Chair, Louder Questions As House Resumes VP Sara Impeachment Hearing

The House Committee on Justice formally opened its third hearing on the impeachment case against Sara Duterte on Wednesday, April 22—but once again, the Vice President was not in the room.

Duterte skipped the proceedings for the third straight time as lawmakers pushed forward with the case, signaling that the inquiry will continue with or without her presence.

Taking the floor, committee chair Jinky Luistro delivered a pointed message, acknowledging the absence while emphasizing the weight of public scrutiny.

“Even if the chair remains empty, this room is full of the people’s questions,” Luistro said, underscoring that the issues being raised will not simply disappear.

She stressed that the growing list of questions—despite silence or absence—cannot be ignored, adding that they are matters that no empty seat can outrun anymore.

With tensions rising and public attention fixed on the proceedings, the hearings continue to build momentum as lawmakers seek answers in one of the country’s most closely watched political battles.
