June Mar Fajardo was front and center once again as San Miguel Beer added another championship to its storied history.
The eight-time MVP delivered a dominant all-around performance, finishing with 29 points and 23 rebounds to lead the Beermen to a 92-77 victory over TNT on Sunday night at the MOA Arena in Pasay City. The win secured San Miguel Beer’s back-to-back All-Filipino titles and earned Fajardo another Finals MVP award.
With the series ending in six games, San Miguel Beer repeated its previous Finals conquest of the Tropang 5G and further cemented its status as the PBA’s most successful franchise. The Beermen now own 12 Philippine Cup championships and 31 titles overall—more than double the total of second-ranked Barangay Ginebra.
Fajardo had plenty of help in the clincher. CJ Perez scored 19 points, Rodney Brondial added 15, Marcio Lassiter contributed 13, and Chris Ross chipped in nine points while delivering a defensive clinic in the fourth quarter, particularly on TNT star Calvin Oftana.
The Finals MVP trophy, named after PBA legend Ramon Fernandez, made the moment even more meaningful for Fajardo. “It’s a great honor to receive the Ramon Fernandez Trophy,” he said, crediting his teammates for the achievement.
Head coach Leo Austria, now an 11-time champion, was quick to shift the spotlight to his players. “The players are the real stars here,” Austria said. “They’re the reason I look good again.”
TNT showed resilience after falling behind by as many as 21 points early in the game. Led by Oftana, the Tropang 5G battled back and even grabbed a 68-66 lead late in the third quarter. But San Miguel Beer tightened its defense in the final period and never looked back.
Sports director Alfrancis Chua praised Ross for stopping TNT’s momentum. “Chris was the one who slowed them down with his defense,” Chua said, referring to Ross’ job on Oftana after his strong first three quarters.
After a rollercoaster first half, San Miguel Beer took a 49-39 lead into halftime and used its experience and composure to close out the game in the fourth.
In the end, it was a familiar scene: San Miguel Beer celebrating another title, and June Mar Fajardo standing tall—champion, Finals MVP, and still the pillar of a dynasty that shows no signs of slowing down.
