The family of late MVP Rene Baterbonia has received a P2.266-million condominium unit from the National Housing Authority (NHA), with support from the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur, Governor Santiago B. Cane Jr., the Local Government Unit of Talacogon, and other partners.
The turnover fulfilled a longtime dream of Baterbonia, who had always hoped to provide his family with a safer home after spending more than 20 years living in an ancestral house that was frequently flooded.
Whenever heavy rains hit, the family was forced to evacuate, but Baterbonia never lost hope of giving his loved ones a better place to live—a promise he often shared with his mother.
Although he is no longer here to see it, that dream has finally become a reality. The new condominium offers the family a secure home and a fresh start after years of living in a flood-prone community.
Local officials said the gesture is more than just housing assistance—it is a tribute to Baterbonia’s life and legacy. While no house can replace the loss of a loved one, the support symbolizes the community's gratitude and commitment to honoring the dream he held for his family.
The new home now stands as a lasting reminder that compassion and collective support can bring hope even after tragedy.
