Five Candidates Enter Race For Cavite Special Congressional Election

The race for the congressional seat in Cavite's 4th Legislative District is officially underway, with five candidates vying for the post in the special election scheduled for Aug. 29.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that Dasmariñas City Mayor Jennifer Barzaga was the last aspirant to file her certificate of candidacy. She is the mother of expelled Representative Francisco Barzaga.
Joining Barzaga in the race are Raul Rex Del Rosario Mangubat, Marvin Opamin Dupal-ag, Leysander Aguilar Ordenes, and Jacinto Bautista Frani Jr.
Comelec also announced that the election period will run from July 30 to Sept. 13. During this time, the carrying or transport of firearms and other deadly weapons in public places will be prohibited, even for licensed gun owners, unless authorized by the poll body.
The gun ban will be enforced only in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, where the special election will take place.
Candidates will be allowed to campaign from July 30 until Aug. 27, ahead of the Aug. 29 polls.
