Former San Beda University guard and Gilas Pilipinas Youth member John Vincent “JV” Gallego has passed away at the age of 28, his talent agency VP Global Management confirmed on Saturday.

The agency paid tribute to Gallego, remembering not only his achievements in basketball but also the impact he made on the people around him.

“Beyond the basketball court, JV will be remembered for the life he lived, the people he touched, and the legacy he leaves behind,” VP Global Management said in its statement.

Gallego made his mark in Philippine basketball from his high school days with Chiang Kai Shek College before joining the National University Bulldogs and later the San Beda Red Lions.

He was part of San Beda’s NCAA Season 99 championship team and also represented the Philippines as a member of the Gilas Pilipinas Youth squad during the 2016 FIBA Asia U18 Championship.

After his collegiate career, Gallego briefly played professionally for the Bicol Volcanoes in the MPBL in 2024 before shifting his focus to developing young athletes. He later served as the Head of the Basketball Program at World Citi Colleges (WCC).

The basketball community continues to remember Gallego for his contributions to the sport and the legacy he leaves behind.

Rest in peace, JV. 🕊️
