Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has officially assumed the Senate's top post after being elected Senate President during a special session attended by 13 lawmakers on Wednesday.

The session brought together several members of the chamber, including Senators Ping Lacson, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Tito Sotto, Francis Escudero, JV Ejercito, Risa Hontiveros, Bam Aquino, Kiko Pangilinan, Raffy Tulfo, Lito Lapid, Erwin Tulfo, and Joel Villanueva.

Hours after the leadership change, Gatchalian met with members of the Senate media corps and security officials to discuss preparations for upcoming activities at the chamber.

Joining him were Senate Secretary Renato N. Bantug Jr. and Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Police Maj. Gen. Alfred Corpus. The meeting focused on media coverage guidelines and security protocols aimed at ensuring transparency while maintaining order during Senate proceedings.

Later in the day, military and police officials also briefed Senate leaders on security arrangements for the scheduled impeachment hearing of Vice President Sara Duterte.

The developments signal the Senate's readiness for what is expected to be a closely watched and politically significant proceeding, with both media access and security preparations now taking center stage under Gatchalian's leadership.
