Ginebra Beats Magnolia, Phoenix In 48-Hour Run

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is on a roll again—two wins in just three nights, and this time, they get a well-earned five-day breather to recover.
Fresh off a nail-biting win over Magnolia Hotshots, the Gin Kings followed it up with a convincing 109-96 victory against Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
It wasn’t just the usual stars carrying the load. While the main guys delivered the numbers, Ginebra’s bench stepped up in a big way—something head coach Tim Cone highlighted after the game.
“Back-to-back, it’s really tough,” Cone admitted. “We came out sluggish, and Justin only had nine in the first half. But when Ralph, Sonny, and Nard came in, they gave us a huge boost and allowed our main guys to rest.”
That second unit energy turned out to be the difference. With fresher legs late in the game, Justin Brownlee, RJ Abarrientos, and Scottie Thompson took over in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Brownlee finished with 30 points, nine rebounds, and five assists despite a slow start, while Abarrientos stayed hot with 28 points, including seven triples. Thompson added 17, and Stephen Holt chipped in 13.
Ginebra had to work for it, though. They erased an 11-point deficit and only pulled away after turning a slim lead into a strong fourth-quarter finish.
On the other side, Phoenix leaned heavily on their outside shooting, knocking down 15 three-pointers—six from Ken Tuffin and four from Jason Perkins. James Dickey III also impressed with 21 points, 21 rebounds, and nine assists, though turnovers hurt their push.
In the end, the Fuel Masters simply ran out of gas late in the game.
With the back-to-back wins, Ginebra now holds solo fourth place at 4-2 in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup, trailing Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, Meralco Bolts, and NLEX Road Warriors.
For the Gin Kings, it’s not just about winning—it’s about surviving a tough schedule, getting contributions from everyone, and peaking at the right time.
