Google LLC has introduced a new category of laptops called Googlebook, marking a major shift in how it envisions personal computing in an AI-first era.

Announced on May 12, 2026, the new devices are designed around Gemini Intelligence, aiming to make everyday laptop tasks more proactive, contextual, and deeply connected across devices.

Over 15 years after the launch of the Chromebook, Google says it is once again rethinking the laptop experience—this time by blending Android and ChromeOS into a more unified, intelligence-driven platform.

“We’re introducing Googlebook, designed for Gemini Intelligence. These new laptops are built with Gemini’s helpfulness at their core, premium hardware and work seamlessly with Android phones.”

According to Alexander Kuscher, Googlebook represents a shift from an operating system-centric model to what the company calls an “intelligence system.”

A laptop that reacts to what you do

One of the standout features is a redesigned cursor experience called Magic Pointer, developed with the Google DeepMind team. Instead of being static, the cursor becomes interactive—offering contextual suggestions based on what’s on screen. For example, highlighting a date in an email could instantly suggest scheduling a meeting.

Another feature, Create your Widget, allows users to generate custom desktop dashboards simply by prompting Gemini. These widgets can pull data from across Google services like Gmail and Calendar, or even the wider web, to build personalized hubs for tasks like travel planning or event coordination.

Built for a connected Android ecosystem

Googlebook is also designed to work more fluidly with Android devices. Users can switch between phone and laptop tasks without interruption—such as replying to messages, completing app-based tasks, or accessing phone files directly from the laptop.

A feature called Quick Access allows users to browse, search, and insert files from their phone without manually transferring them.

Hardware partnerships and design

Google is working with major PC manufacturers including Acer Inc., ASUS, Dell Technologies, HP Inc., and Lenovo Group Limited to bring the first Googlebook devices to market.

The company says each device will feature premium materials and a distinctive “glowbar” design element intended to make Googlebooks instantly recognizable.

Google did not announce pricing or exact release models yet, but confirmed that more details will roll out later this year, with availability expected in the fall.

For now, Googlebook signals a clear direction: laptops that don’t just respond to users—but actively assist them in real time.
