The Philippine government is looking into reports about the alleged construction of a new structure at Bajo de Masinloc, with authorities saying verification efforts are now underway to determine the facts on the ground.
In a statement released on June 3, the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) said concerned government agencies have been directed to validate the reports using available monitoring, surveillance, and operational assessment tools.
The task force stressed that any development in the West Philippine Sea is being taken seriously, particularly if it could affect the country’s sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction over its maritime territories.
According to the NTF-WPS, agencies are closely coordinating to ensure that any assessment of the situation is based on verified information and not speculation.
While the investigation is ongoing, the task force urged the public to rely only on official government announcements and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports.
The government also reiterated its commitment to protecting the country's maritime interests and defending its lawful rights in the West Philippine Sea. It emphasized that its actions continue to be guided by international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the landmark 2016 Arbitral Award.
The NTF-WPS said additional information will be released once the verification process has been completed and authorities have established the facts surrounding the reported structure.
