MIAMI — The NBA landscape was shaken Tuesday after the Miami Heat reportedly acquired two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks in one of the biggest trades in league history.
The blockbuster move, first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania and confirmed by multiple outlets, ends months of speculation surrounding Antetokounmpo's future and brings the Greek superstar to South Beach alongside veteran forward Bobby Portis.
In exchange, the Bucks received Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., rookie Kasparas Jakučionis, the No. 13 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, a 2030 pick swap and a 2033 second-round selection.
The trade closes a remarkable chapter for Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee, where he spent 13 seasons and transformed the Bucks into a perennial contender. The 10-time All-Star led the franchise to the 2021 NBA championship and became the team's all-time leader in points, rebounds and assists.
Questions about the 31-year-old's future intensified after Milwaukee endured an injury-plagued 2025-26 campaign, finishing with a disappointing 32-50 record and missing the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade. Tensions reportedly grew between Antetokounmpo and the organization over the handling of his knee injury.
Miami had long been viewed as one of the favorites to land Antetokounmpo, with the Heat aggressively pursuing another franchise cornerstone to pair with Bam Adebayo. The addition of the former Finals MVP immediately vaults Miami back into championship contention in the Eastern Conference.
Boston was also believed to be in the running for the superstar forward, but the Bucks ultimately accepted Miami's package of players and draft assets.
Antetokounmpo is coming off a season shortened by injuries, but he remains one of the league's most dominant players. Over his previous three healthy seasons, he averaged more than 30 points, nearly 12 rebounds and over six assists per game.
The deal, which still requires final league approval, is expected to reshape the balance of power in the NBA and will likely be remembered as one of the defining moves of the 2026 offseason.
