A House leader has expressed support for any special session that may be called by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., saying it could help address pending legislative concerns while bringing clarity to the ongoing leadership questions in the Senate.

Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon, who chairs the House Committee on Public Accounts, said the House of Representatives is ready to convene if the President decides to call Congress into a special session.

Speaking at a news forum in Quezon City, Ridon said there is no opposition from the House to such a move, noting that both chambers of Congress would need to participate if a special session is officially called.

According to Ridon, the need for a special session appears to be more pressing on the Senate side due to measures that have reportedly been delayed in recent weeks.

The lawmaker said the House would fully support the initiative if it is considered necessary to address unfinished legislative business.

Beyond pending measures, Ridon also voiced hope that a special session could finally settle uncertainties surrounding the Senate's leadership situation.

He said it is important for the public and government institutions to have a clear understanding of the actual state of leadership within the upper chamber.

Ridon further stated that, from the perspective of both Malacañang and the House of Representatives, Senate President Pro Tempore Sherwin Gatchalian is currently being recognized as the Senate's leader.

The remarks come as questions continue to surround leadership matters in the Senate, while the House prosecution panel presses ahead with preparations for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, which is scheduled to begin on July 6.

With key legislative and political developments unfolding, attention is now focused on whether President Marcos will call a special session and whether it could help bring certainty to the Senate's leadership situation.
