The House of Representatives is stepping up efforts to address the potential impact of the escalating conflict in the Middle East, with Speaker of the House Faustino Dy III ordering a series of joint committee hearings aimed at crafting a coordinated government response.

According to Dy, the hearings will bring together key House committees and executive agencies to discuss immediate relief measures, safeguard the economy, and develop long-term strategies to help the country withstand the effects of the crisis.

“We are holding these joint hearings to make sure that the initiatives of the Legislative branch are coordinated with the Executive and are properly targeted and forward-looking. Ang kailangan natin ngayon ay malinaw na plano—hindi lang para sa ngayon, kundi para sa mga susunod na buwan at taon,” the Speaker said.

The hearings are scheduled to take place during the congressional session break and will focus on sectors expected to feel the greatest impact of the Middle East situation, including energy, food security, labor, transportation, and economic management.

Dy emphasized that the purpose of the hearings is to identify practical solutions rather than assign blame.

“The objective of these hearings is to work with our partners in the Executive to identify solutions, not point fingers.”

“We want to hear directly from our economic managers and frontline agencies so we have the information we need to come with measures that can help our people cope with the impact of the Middle East conflict.”

Among the House panels set to participate are the committees on Energy, Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries, Foreign Affairs, Ways and Means, Labor and Employment, Transportation, and Information and Communications Technology. Lawmakers are expected to work closely with government agencies to formulate legislative measures that will help protect Filipino workers, stabilize essential industries, and minimize the economic effects of the ongoing crisis.

The planned hearings reflect the House leadership's push for a unified and proactive response as tensions in the Middle East continue to pose risks to global energy supplies, trade, and the welfare of overseas Filipino workers.
