Deputy Speaker Paolo Ortega V said the House prosecution team is already deep into preparations for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, with lawmakers and private lawyers working together to build what he described as a strong teamplay approach ahead of the Senate proceedings.

Speaking on the “Insiders” podcast hosted by former presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda and former Akbayan Rep. Barry Gutierrez, Ortega said prosecutors have already been assigned specific impeachment articles to handle as they prepare for what is expected to be a high-stakes legal and political showdown.

According to Ortega, the House panel understands the scale of the challenge, especially with Duterte’s defense camp expected to bring experienced lawyers, political influence, and intense public attention into the trial.

He said preparations are happening both individually and collectively, with prosecutors studying their assigned roles while also coordinating closely as a group.

The impeachment case against Duterte includes allegations involving the misuse of public funds, unexplained wealth, and supposed threats directed at President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former Speaker of the House Martin Romualdez.

Ortega said private lawyers are also expected to join the prosecution effort, adding that some already worked with House members during earlier impeachment proceedings, making coordination smoother as the team moves forward.

He stressed that the case is not an ordinary assignment and would require discipline, timing, and a united strategy both inside the Senate and in public discussions.

The La Union lawmaker also pointed out that months of hearings, criticism, and political attacks have strengthened the bond among members of the House prosecution team and the Committee on Justice.

According to him, the shared experience has created a stronger working relationship among those involved, something he believes could help once the actual trial begins.

Aside from legal preparations, Ortega said the House side is also building a communications team to help explain the impeachment process to the public.

Among those expected to serve as spokespersons are Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong and Kabataan Partylist Rep. Renee Co, who will help answer questions from the media and clarify developments surrounding the case.

Ortega said he will also take part in the communications effort, particularly in helping local communities better understand the impeachment proceedings and what they could mean for accountability, governance, and the country’s political future.
