South Korean actor Hyun Bin has been officially appointed as an “Honorary Counterintelligence Agent” by the National Intelligence Service, in a symbolic role aimed at promoting public awareness on national security issues.

The announcement was confirmed by the NIS and further supported by Hyun Bin’s agency through a social media post, which encouraged the public to show interest in the actor’s upcoming activities as he works alongside the intelligence agency in an honorary capacity.

While the title does not involve any operational intelligence duties, the NIS explained that honorary appointments are given to public figures to help raise awareness about counterintelligence efforts, cybersecurity risks, and national security concerns.

Hyun Bin, known for his roles in popular dramas such as Crash Landing on You and films like Confidential Assignment, has often portrayed military and intelligence-related characters on screen, making him a fitting choice for the symbolic role.

The appointment is expected to include participation in public campaigns and awareness initiatives designed to educate citizens on modern security challenges, including cyber threats and espionage risks.

With his strong domestic and international fan base, the NIS aims to leverage Hyun Bin’s influence to reach a wider audience and strengthen public engagement in national security awareness.
