Impeachment Hearings Begin Luistro Says Accountability Process Just Getting Started

The impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte officially kicked off on Tuesday, April 14, with House leaders signaling that this is only the start of a longer process.
At the opening of the hearing, Gerville Luistro, chair of the House Committee on Justice, made it clear that the proceedings are far from over.
“This is merely the beginning, not the end, of accountability mechanism,” Luistro said, setting the tone for what could be a closely watched political battle in the coming weeks.
Under the rules on impeachment, the committee is set to tackle multiple complaints filed against the Vice President. These include a complaint led by Joel Saballa and endorsed by ML Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima.
Another complaint was filed by lawyer Nathaniel Cabrera, backed by lawmakers Bienvenido Abante Jr. and Francisco Paolo Ortega V.
As the hearings move forward, the committee is expected to review the complaints in detail to determine whether there is enough basis to proceed further — marking what Luistro emphasized as just the first step in holding officials accountable.
