Iran Tightens Control Over Strait Of Hormuz Amid Escalating US Tensions

Iran has tightened its control over the Strait of Hormuz once again following renewed tensions with the United States over maritime restrictions and access to its ports, according to Iranian state media.
The decision comes after a brief period in which limited commercial traffic was allowed through the strategic waterway. Iranian military authorities say the strait is now back under strict oversight, with movement of vessels subject to tighter monitoring and authorization by Iranian forces.
Iran’s military command linked the move to what it described as continued US-imposed restrictions affecting Iranian shipping and port operations. It said access through the strait will remain controlled unless full freedom of navigation is ensured for vessels connected to Iran.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints, connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman. A significant portion of global oil shipments passes through the narrow waterway, making any disruption a concern for international energy markets.
Tensions between Tehran and Washington have intensified in recent weeks, with both sides accusing each other of escalating maritime pressure. The situation has led to heightened uncertainty for commercial shipping, with reports of vessels facing delays and stricter inspection procedures in the region.
While the strait has not been fully closed to all traffic, its operations remain highly restricted, with passage conditions changing depending on security assessments and authorization by Iranian authorities.
The latest developments add to ongoing instability in the region, as diplomatic efforts continue to address rising friction and prevent further disruption to global energy supply routes.
