Jordan Clarkson is staying with the defending NBA champion New York Knicks after agreeing to a one-year, $3.9 million contract, according to ESPN's Shams Charania, citing Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and agent Brandon Cavanaugh.
The deal keeps the veteran guard in New York for another season as the Knicks begin their title defense following their championship run earlier this year.
Clarkson, 34, served as a reliable scoring option off the bench during the Knicks' title-winning campaign. He appeared in 72 regular-season games, making one start, and averaged 8.6 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists while providing valuable experience and depth to New York's backcourt.
A former NBA Sixth Man of the Year, Clarkson enters his 13th NBA season with career averages of 15.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 825 games. Since making his NBA debut in 2014, he has played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Utah Jazz, and the Knicks, establishing himself as one of the league's top reserve scorers.
The Knicks have prioritized keeping much of their championship roster intact this offseason, and Clarkson's return gives the team another experienced playmaker as it looks to compete for back-to-back NBA titles.
For basketball fans in the Philippines, the signing carries added significance. Clarkson, a longtime member of Gilas Pilipinas, remains one of the country's biggest basketball stars and will continue his pursuit of another NBA championship while proudly representing the Philippines on the league's biggest stage.
