San Miguel star June Mar Fajardo has assured fans there's no need to worry after sitting out the Beermen's opening game in the PBA Governors' Cup due to an elbow injury.

The nine-time PBA Most Valuable Player said he is recovering well from a hyperextended elbow he sustained while playing for Gilas Pilipinas during the final window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

Although he missed San Miguel's 123-109 victory over visiting team Macau on Tuesday at the Ynares Center, Fajardo said he expects to rejoin team practice on Wednesday and is hopeful of returning to action when the Beermen face Terrafirma this Saturday.

"I'll join practice in the next session, and hopefully I'll be able to play on Saturday," Fajardo shared.

The veteran center said he suffered the injury during Gilas Pilipinas' 92-49 loss to Australia in Perth last week but emphasized that it is nothing serious.

"It's just a sore elbow. I'm okay. I just need some rest," he said.

San Miguel lead assistant coach Peter Martin, who handled the Beermen in place of the ill Leo Austria, said the team will not rush Fajardo's return and will make sure he is fully recovered before putting him back on the court.

Martin admitted the elbow is still not completely healed but remains optimistic that the six-time PBA champion can make his comeback soon.

For now, San Miguel is taking a cautious approach, with the team's priority being Fajardo's full recovery as the Governors' Cup season gets underway.
