JV Ejercito Raises Concern Over Decline Of San Juan Medical Center

Senator JV Ejercito has expressed concern over what he described as the declining condition of the San Juan Medical Center, saying it was once a top priority under previous local leadership.

Ejercito said he feels disheartened by the hospital’s current state, noting that during his time in local government and up to the administration of former mayor Guia Gomez, the facility consistently received attention and support.

These days, however, he said residents have been raising a growing number of complaints and concerns about the hospital, along with reports that paint an unfavorable picture of its situation. This, he pointed out, raises a pressing question: was the hospital simply neglected—or intentionally left behind?

Ejercito recalled that in 2019, just before Gomez’s term ended, the hospital had undergone expansion and acquired new medical equipment, including MRI and CT scan machines. But instead of being immediately opened and used—especially during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic—the upgrades, he said, became entangled in political issues.

For Ejercito, the issue goes beyond criticism. He stressed that any administration with genuine concern for its constituents should prioritize healthcare services, particularly the city’s main public hospital, which serves the people of San Juan.

He also questioned the prioritization of other city projects, saying that while developments such as aesthetic improvements and infrastructure upgrades may be important, basic healthcare services should come first.

In the end, the senator emphasized that his statement is not meant as an attack, but as an appeal—urging leaders to refocus on what residents truly need, starting with the proper support and development of the San Juan Medical Center.
