The youth party-list group Kabataan Partylist on Monday urged the Senate to immediately move forward with the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, warning lawmakers against delaying the process amid leadership tensions in the chamber.

As senators prepare to convene as an impeachment court, Kabataan Representative Renee Co said the public is expecting the Senate to act swiftly following the transmission of the articles of impeachment from the House of Representatives.

“The impeachment must proceed at once. It is a disservice to the Filipino people if the impeachment hearing is delayed any longer,” Co said.

The lawmaker stressed that ongoing issues involving Senate leadership should not interfere with the constitutional process.

Co also pushed back against claims that the impeachment issue distracts from economic concerns faced by ordinary Filipinos, arguing that accountability in government is directly tied to public welfare.

Public service and accountability go hand in hand in the pursuit of justice.

The impeachment case against Duterte has continued to fuel political tensions, with both supporters and critics closely watching how the Senate will handle the proceedings in the coming days.

Co said.
