Kanlaon Volcano Records Multiple Ash Emissions As Alert Level 2 Remains

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST) reported continued ash emissions from Kanlaon Volcano, with multiple bursts observed within a recent 24-hour monitoring period as the volcano remains under Alert Level 2.

Based on PHIVOLCS observations from the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory in Canlaon City, ash emissions were recorded from the summit crater, producing gray plumes that rose to several hundred meters before drifting toward the southwest due to prevailing winds.

The agency reported around 20 ash emission events during the monitoring period, with plume heights ranging from roughly 100 to 500 meters. These emissions were consistently observed drifting in the same general direction, indicating sustained but fluctuating volcanic activity.

PHIVOLCS said Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 2, which indicates moderate unrest. While no magmatic eruption is currently occurring, the agency continues to warn that sudden phreatic or steam-driven explosions may still happen without clear precursors.

Authorities continue to closely monitor the volcano and have maintained restrictions around the permanent danger zone near the summit. Residents in surrounding areas are advised to remain vigilant for possible ashfall and other volcanic hazards as unrest persists.
