Kennedy Center Honors PH Lawyers Group For Human Rights Work

The National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers (NUPL), the Philippines’ largest voluntary organization of human rights lawyers, has been named this year’s recipient of the 43rd Annual Human Rights Award given by the Robert & Ethel Kennedy Human Rights Center.
The group is widely known for providing free legal services to victims of politically motivated abuses and for consistently defending civil liberties in the Philippines. Over the years, its members have faced significant risks, including harassment and persecution, yet continue to push forward in their advocacy for justice and accountability.
Supporters say NUPL’s work has become a symbol of resilience in the face of pressure, highlighting the importance of independent legal defense in protecting human rights and public interest law.
The award ceremony is scheduled for June 4 at 6:00 PM ET and will take place at the Kennedy Caucus Room in the Russell Senate Office Building.
