LTO Issues SCO Over Viral Land Cruiser Hit-And-Run

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) against the registered owner and the driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser linked to a viral hit-and-run incident along Ortigas Avenue in Mandaluyong City.

The action was ordered by LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao after a video circulating on social media showed the SUV allegedly involved in the incident. The footage also appeared to show a House of Representatives (HOR) sticker covering the vehicle's conduction sticker.

The LTO directed both the registered owner and the driver to appear before its Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) and explain why they should not be held liable for possible violations, including Tampering of Authorized Motor Vehicle License Plates and/or Third Plate Sticker, Reckless Driving, and Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle. The agency said additional violations may still be identified as the investigation continues.

Authorities also placed the Toyota Land Cruiser under alarm status while the investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, the driver's license of the individual involved has been placed under a 90-day preventive suspension, with the driver ordered to surrender the license to the IID.

“Walang sinuman ang higit sa batas. Hindi magiging batayan ang anumang katungkulan, posisyon, o impluwensya upang makaiwas sa pananagutan. Patuloy nating ipatutupad ang batas nang patas at walang kinikilingan para sa kaligtasan ng bawat gumagamit ng lansangan,” Lacanilao said.

The LTO reiterated that it will continue to strictly and fairly enforce traffic laws and regulations, stressing that anyone found violating road safety rules will be held accountable regardless of position or influence.
