Magnitude 5.3 Aftershock Shakes Davao Occidental

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake shook parts of Davao Occidental on Saturday morning, July 4, at 10:21 a.m., according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers, with its epicenter located about 38 kilometers south-southwest of Balut Island in the Municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

PHIVOLCS said the tremor was an aftershock of the magnitude 7.8 Offshore Sarangani and magnitude 6.5 Offshore Davao Occidental earthquakes that struck in June 2026.

Based on the agency's report, Instrumental Intensity III was recorded in Malapatan, Sarangani. Instrumental Intensity II was monitored in Kiamba and Malungon in Sarangani, as well as Tupi and T'Boli in South Cotabato. Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensity I was recorded in Maitum and Maasim in Sarangani, and in General Santos City.

PHIVOLCS has yet to report any damage or casualties related to the earthquake.
