Mamuyac Heads To Phoenix In Major PBA Trade

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters have officially parted ways with team captain Gian Mamuyac after trading the two-time PBA All-Star to the Phoenix Fuel Masters in exchange for Phoenix's first-round pick in the PBA Season 53 Draft.
As part of the PBA-approved deal announced Thursday, Rain or Shine also sent its second-round pick in the same draft to Phoenix.
The trade ends Mamuyac's four-year stint with the Elasto Painters, the franchise that selected him fifth overall in the 2022 PBA Rookie Draft following a decorated collegiate career with the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
Since entering the PBA, Mamuyac has established himself as one of Rain or Shine's most consistent players. He earned two PBA All-Star selections and was eventually named team captain. During the previous conference, he averaged 13.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while also receiving the PBA Sportsmanship Award.
Reports said the trade came after Rain or Shine and Mamuyac were unable to reach a new contract agreement. Although his original contract had expired, it remained in effect through the ongoing conference under PBA rules while both sides negotiated an extension.
In announcing the trade, Rain or Shine thanked Mamuyac for his leadership, dedication, and contributions to the franchise, saying his impact extended beyond his performance on the court.
Mamuyac played his final game for the Elasto Painters in a 131-108 loss to Blackwater, finishing with 12 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
The 27-year-old guard now joins a Phoenix squad that has enjoyed a strong start to the Governors' Cup. He will reunite with former Ateneo teammate Tyler Tio and joins a roster that also includes fellow Blue Eagle Kai Ballungay, along with Jason Perkins, Kenneth Tuffin, and Ricci Rivero. Mamuyac is expected to make his debut for the Fuel Masters against Barangay Ginebra on July 19.
For Rain or Shine, the trade adds another valuable first-round draft asset as the franchise continues to build for the future, while Phoenix strengthens its roster with one of the PBA's premier two-way guards as it looks to remain among the conference's top contenders.
