MANILA — The fight against false information just earned another win after the Manong Joe Facebook page clinched a Gold Award at the 61st Anvil Awards for its entry titled “From Fake News to Fact: Strengthening Public Discernment with Manong Joe.”
The recognition, given during one of the country’s most respected award-giving events for communication programs, celebrates the team’s efforts to help the public sharpen their judgment when consuming online content.
According to the team behind the project, the award serves as a strong reminder of why pushing back against misleading narratives remains crucial in today’s online landscape. “This award is a reminder kung bakit mahalagang labanan ang fake news, misinformation, at disinformation,” the statement read.
The initiative uses approachable content and relatable storytelling to guide Filipinos on how to spot accuracy issues, verify claims, and avoid being misled. Its creators say the goal has always been simple: empower everyday citizens to think critically before sharing anything online.
They also extended their gratitude to supporters, acknowledging the role of the community that consistently participates in the effort to promote truth. The team thanked the Public Relations Society of the Philippines for the honor, along with followers who continue to stand with them in raising awareness against deceptive digital content.
With misinformation still widespread across social media, the Gold Anvil serves both as a milestone and a motivation for the group to continue producing content that champions clarity, truth, and responsible engagement online.
