Marco Rubio Heads To Manila For Key ASEAN Meetings

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to visit the Philippines from July 19 to 23 as he joins a series of high-level ASEAN meetings aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and reaffirming the United States' commitment to the Indo-Pacific.
The US Department of State said Rubio's visit will highlight the achievements of the US-ASEAN partnership while further deepening Washington's comprehensive relationship with the Philippines.
According to the State Department, the trip supports the US goal of promoting a "free and open Indo-Pacific" that fosters safety, security, and prosperity for countries across the region as well as the American people.
During his stay in Manila, Rubio will participate in the ASEAN Post-Ministerial Conference, the East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting, and the ASEAN Regional Forum Foreign Ministers' Meeting. He is also expected to hold discussions with senior government officials from several Indo-Pacific nations.
Rubio is among the foreign ministers arriving in the Philippines for the ministerial meetings being hosted by the country as this year's ASEAN chair.
