Marcoleta Vows To Stand Firm Amid Complaint, Backs Senate Probe On Flood Control Scandal

Senator Rodante Marcoleta has vowed to remain defiant in the face of a newly filed complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman, saying the case is meant to pressure and silence his independence as a legislator.
In a statement posted last week, Marcoleta said he was “stunned” by what he described as a complaint filed by the Field Investigation Bureau of the Office of the Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon, which he claimed was timed and framed to intimidate him rather than hold him accountable.
He insisted that attempts to silence him would fail, stressing that he would continue performing his duties despite what he described as mounting political pressure.
Marcoleta said he believes the complaint lacks substance, arguing that accountability cases must be supported by clear evidence of public injury, abuse of office, or corrupt intent. He claimed instead that the filing was being used as a form of pressure against officials who refuse to conform politically.
He framed the issue as part of a broader struggle over the independence of lawmakers, saying the real question is whether senators can continue to question government actions without fear of retaliation.
The senator also reiterated his support for the ongoing Senate investigation into alleged irregularities in the government’s flood control projects, describing it as a critical inquiry that should not be weakened or derailed.
He warned that large-scale corruption in public infrastructure projects represents a serious betrayal of public trust, saying it deprives communities of essential services such as flood protection, roads, classrooms, and healthcare support.
Marcoleta emphasized that the Senate must not be intimidated in pursuing the trail of public funds, especially in cases involving billions of pesos in alleged misuse.
In his statement, he also rejected the idea that threats or pressure could alter his legislative stance, saying he would continue to act according to his oath, conscience, and duty to the public.
He added that even in the face of political isolation, he intends to continue speaking out on issues he believes involve accountability and corruption.
The complaint against Marcoleta has not yet been publicly detailed in full, and authorities have yet to issue further comment on its merits or timeline.
