Marcos Calls On BARMM Voters To Help Shape Region's Future

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. emphasized the importance of active democratic participation in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), urging residents to take part in the upcoming elections as a way to strengthen accountable and people-centered governance.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of BARMM’s 7th Founding Anniversary at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex, Marcos said the elections should serve as a platform for the Bangsamoro people to express their aspirations and help determine the direction of the region’s leadership.
The President underscored that strong leadership must be rooted in democracy, accountability, and genuine public service, noting that the gains achieved through peace should be protected and sustained through unity and cooperation. He stressed that future generations of Bangsamoro deserve a system of governance built on shared responsibility, participation, and transparency.
Marcos also linked BARMM’s progress to the broader national vision of Bagong Pilipinas, highlighting peace and unity as key foundations for long-term development not only in Mindanao but across the country.
BARMM was established through the Bangsamoro Organic Law, or Republic Act No. 11054, which was enacted in 2018 and ratified in a two-part plebiscite held on January 21 and February 6, 2019. The law provided the legal framework for the creation of the autonomous region, officially replacing the former Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
As BARMM marks seven years since its founding, the President’s message centered on safeguarding the progress achieved through peace and ensuring that the upcoming elections further strengthen inclusive governance and democratic institutions in the region.
