President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has departed for Japan for his first State Visit following an invitation from the Japanese government, signaling the Philippines’ continued push to deepen its strategic partnership with one of its closest allies in Asia.
The visit is expected to focus on expanding cooperation between the Philippines and Japan in key sectors such as trade and investment, infrastructure, energy, maritime cooperation, defense and security, as well as regional peace and stability.
Malacañang said the trip also highlights the long-standing friendship between the Filipino and Japanese people as both countries celebrate the 70th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations this year.
Officials expect discussions during the visit to further strengthen economic collaboration and open more opportunities for development projects and investments that could benefit both nations.
Japan remains one of the Philippines’ major economic and strategic partners, particularly in infrastructure support, development assistance, and regional security cooperation.
The state visit comes at a time when both countries continue to work closely on maintaining stability in the Indo-Pacific region while boosting economic growth and people-to-people ties.
The Philippines and Japan have steadily expanded their partnership in recent years through joint initiatives in transportation, defense cooperation, disaster resilience, and energy development, reflecting the growing importance of their bilateral relationship.
