President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. went straight to the market on Wednesday to personally check what many Filipinos are worried about—rising prices and food supply.

Leading a joint monitoring effort with the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Trade and Industry in San Juan City, the President assured the public that, for now, things remain stable despite global uncertainties.

The inspection comes as tensions in the Middle East continue to push global oil prices higher, raising concerns about possible price hikes in basic goods.

Joining the visit were Cristina Roque and Francisco Tiu-Laurel, who helped assess the situation on the ground by speaking directly with vendors and market stakeholders.

After making rounds at Agora Market, Marcos shared a reassuring update: prices of basic goods are holding steady, and there are no signs of price gouging.

“We’re going around different markets to make sure food prices don’t suddenly spike,” the President said, noting that current prices remain within normal levels.

He also emphasized that supply is not an issue. According to Marcos, the country has enough food, rice, and other essential goods, making panic buying or hoarding unnecessary.

“Our supply is in good shape. There’s no shortage, so there’s no need for hoarding,” he added.

The President also commended local vendors for following the suggested price caps set by the DTI, noting that prices remain consistent with levels from about a month ago.

“Our vendors are cooperating. Prices are still normal—about the same as last month. That’s what we want to maintain,” he said.

With the situation in the Middle East still uncertain, Marcos assured the public that the government will continue closely monitoring both prices and supply to keep the market stable in the coming weeks.
