Marcos Says He's Stable After Diverticulitis Diagnosis
Screengrab from PCO
MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has addressed circulating rumors about his health, confirming that he was diagnosed with diverticulitis and assuring the public that he is recovering and capable of continuing his duties.
The President’s health came under scrutiny after he experienced abdominal discomfort and was placed under medical observation. The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) clarified that Marcos spent a night under observation as a precaution, during which doctors advised rest and monitoring. Officials said his condition remains stable and that he has since returned to Malacañang Palace and resumed his work.
In a video message released through Malacañang, Marcos said the discomfort was caused by diverticulitis — inflammation of small pouches in the digestive tract — and emphasized that the condition is not life-threatening. He also addressed rumors that he had died, calling them false.
Marcos said he is feeling better and that the issue has been addressed. Despite being advised to rest, he acknowledged the demands of his role and affirmed his commitment to continuing his responsibilities.
Health experts note that diverticulitis is relatively common among older adults and can cause symptoms such as abdominal pain or digestive discomfort, but it generally responds well to treatment when managed promptly.
Malacañang officials reiterated that there is no cause for alarm and urged the public to rely on verified information. They said Marcos will continue to be monitored while he resumes scheduled meetings and governance activities.
