President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. formally welcomed Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary Tô Lâm at Malacañan Palace on Monday as the Philippines and Viet Nam celebrated key milestones in their long-standing diplomatic relationship.

Tô Lâm arrived in the country for a two-day state visit, becoming the first leader of Viet Nam’s Communist Party to make an official visit to the Philippines. The trip comes as both nations mark 50 years of diplomatic relations and a decade of their Strategic Partnership.

The Vietnamese leader was received with full state honors at Malacañan, where the national anthems of both countries were played and a 21-gun salute was rendered in his honor. President Marcos and President Tô also introduced members of their respective delegations during the welcome ceremony.

After the formal reception, President Marcos accompanied the visiting leader into the Palace, where Tô Lâm signed the guestbook before joining a series of official meetings and engagements.

The visit is expected to reinforce cooperation between Manila and Hanoi in areas such as trade, defense, maritime affairs, and regional collaboration, underscoring the growing partnership between the two Southeast Asian neighbors.
