Manila Electric Company (Meralco), led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, is helping brighten communities in Batangas by donating 1,000 solar lamps to 68 parishes under the Archdiocese of Lipa.
The solar lamps were formally turned over during a ceremony held in the historic town of Taal, Batangas. Leading the event were Meralco Chief External and Government Affairs Officer Atty. Arnel D. Casanova and Meralco Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer and One Meralco Foundation (OMF) President Jeffrey O. Tarayao. Parish representatives from across the archdiocese attended, along with Rev. Fr. Bernard Aguila, Rector and Parish Priest of the Minor Basilica and Parish of St. Martin of Tours and Chairman of the Archdiocesan Ministry on Stewardship.
“This initiative reaffirms Meralco’s commitment to empowering communities with sustainable and reliable energy solutions. By providing solar lights to different parishes, we hope to support their invaluable work that supports the Batangas community,” Casanova said.
The solar lamp distribution is part of Meralco’s ongoing partnership with the Archdiocese of Lipa. Previous efforts included the distribution of Noche Buena packages and the lighting of the façade of the historic Metropolitan Cathedral of San Sebastian in Lipa City during the Christmas season.
“At One Meralco Foundation, we believe that electricity is an enabler of progress and development. Our support to different parishes strengthens our ongoing advocacy to help uplift lives by spreading the light,” Tarayao said.
Meralco currently provides electricity to several areas in Batangas, including Sto. Tomas City, Batangas City, and the municipality of San Pascual. Through initiatives like this, the company continues to extend its role beyond power distribution by supporting faith-based and community-driven programs across its service areas.
