With thousands of devotees expected to flock to Antipolo for Holy Week, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has stepped up wire-clearing operations near the Antipolo Cathedral to help ensure a safer environment for both pilgrims and motorists.

The initiative, carried out on March 27 along P. Oliveros Street, was done in coordination with the Antipolo City government. Leading the activity were Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares and Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga.

The cleanup focused on removing unauthorized and potentially hazardous wire attachments that could pose risks, especially during the anticipated surge of visitors in the area.

“Meralco will continue to conduct more operations like this in close coordination with local government units to ensure public safety, especially with the expected surge of the devotees this coming Holy Week,” Zaldarriaga said.

According to Meralco, the effort is part of a broader campaign to maintain the safety and reliability of its infrastructure. Since the beginning of the year, the company has already removed over 25,000 kilograms of illegal wire attachments across its service areas.

The power distributor continues to partner with local government units through its Anti-Urban Blight Operations, aiming not only to improve public safety but also to ensure stable and reliable electricity service for its more than 8 million customers.

As Holy Week approaches, authorities are reminding the public that these proactive measures are in place to help make one of the country’s busiest religious seasons safer and more orderly for everyone.
