The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has been recognized by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for having the highest number of participants in customer choice programs across Luzon, highlighting its efforts to give consumers greater control over their electricity options.
The recognition reflects Meralco's continued support for government initiatives that encourage competition in the energy sector while allowing qualified customers to choose electricity plans that best suit their needs.
Receiving the award on behalf of the company was Meralco Senior Vice President and Head of Regulatory Management Atty. Jose Ronald Valles. The recognition was presented by ERC officials led by Chairperson and CEO Atty. Francis Saturnino Juan, with Department of Energy Secretary Sharon Garin also present during the ceremony.
Meralco has been actively promoting several customer choice programs introduced by the government, including the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA), the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), and the Retail Aggregation Program (RAP).
These initiatives provide eligible consumers with more flexibility in selecting their electricity suppliers, allowing them to explore options that may offer competitive rates, renewable energy sources, or services tailored to their energy needs.
The recognition underscores Meralco's role in expanding consumer participation in these programs while supporting the government's goal of creating a more competitive and customer-focused electricity market.
