Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is reinforcing its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by expanding its #Mbrace program, an enterprise-wide initiative designed to create a safe and supportive workplace where every employee feels respected and empowered.
Originally launched in 2021 to promote women's empowerment and representation, the program has since broadened its focus to include LGBTQIA+ employees and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Meralco said the initiative aims to foster a workplace where everyone—regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, or ability—is valued and given equal opportunities to thrive.
As part of its Pride Month celebration in June, Meralco once again painted rainbow crosswalks at its Ortigas headquarters and sector offices to symbolize inclusivity and allyship. The company also recognized employees by highlighting their stories and perspectives, while senior leaders expressed their support for a more inclusive work environment.
Meralco also expanded its all-gender restrooms at its headquarters, with plans to roll out similar facilities across more company sites. The shared spaces are intended to make employees feel safe, welcome, and respected while promoting accessibility and dignity for all.
To further encourage conversations about inclusion, Meralco partnered with the Philippine Financial & Inter-industry Pride (PFIP) to host the "Safe to Be Me" webinar. The event gathered leaders and employees from Meralco and its subsidiaries to discuss safe spaces, allyship, and practical ways to build a stronger culture of belonging.
Chief Human Resources Officer Hans R. Montenegro said being authentic at work should be the standard, not a privilege, stressing that safe spaces are built through respect, empathy, and everyday interactions.
Meanwhile, Chief Information Security Officer Marilene P. Tayag emphasized that allyship goes beyond company policies, saying it is reflected in the daily choices employees make, the conversations they have, and their willingness to stand up for one another.
Meralco said the #Mbrace initiative is part of its broader sustainability program, Powering the Good Life, which focuses on Power, Planet, People, and Prosperity, as the company continues to build a more inclusive, compassionate, and future-ready workplace.
